Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175 °C (350 °F). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Add eggs and flavoring: Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla or almond extract.
- Combine: Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Chill dough: Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour to help cookies hold their shape.
- Shape cookies: Roll dough out on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters.
- Bake: Place on prepared sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool and decorate: Let cookies cool completely before frosting or decorating.
Notes
- Don’t overbake the cookies should stay soft and light in color.
- Chill dough well before rolling to prevent spreading.
