Description

Relish the nostalgia of a classic dessert with our Old-Fashioned Rice Pudding. This comforting dish is the perfect combination of creamy texture and subtle sweetness, enhanced with an optional hint of vanilla and cinnamon. Whether you enjoy it warm or chilled, this timeless treat will evoke warmth and memories with each bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup long-grain white rice
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional but recommended)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional for serving)
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, salt, and rice.
  2. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring often to prevent sticking.
  3. Once it simmers, reduce heat to low.
  4. Cook 25–30 minutes, stirring frequently until the mixture thickens and the rice is tender.
  5. If using raisins, add them during the last 10 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  7. The pudding will continue to thicken as it cools.
  8. Serve warm, or chill in the fridge for a thicker, creamier texture.
  9. Sprinkle cinnamon on top if desired.

Notes

  • For extra creaminess, replace 1 cup of milk with heavy cream.
  • If it gets too thick, stir in a splash of milk before serving.
  • For a richer old-school taste, add a small dab of butter at the end.
